‘Warfare zone’: Every day gunshots remind Milwaukee peace activist of her murdered son


A Milwaukee peace activist pleaded for elected officers to work with group leaders to fight rampant violence in her neighborhood, the place every day gunshots remind her of when her son was killed simply blocks away from her residence.

“It’s not a battle zone per se but when I’m listening to gunshots every day, it type of is,” Camille Mays, the founding father of Peace Backyard Venture MKE, instructed Fox Information. “Regardless that I am not ducking and dodging bullets on my block, if I can hear them each day, that is not good.”

Mays stated residents and elected officers must collaborate on initiatives targeted on psychological wellness and constructing constructive relationships inside the group to scale back violent crime. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson hasn’t accepted Mays requests for a gathering, making it seem as if he does not care about the group’s efforts, the activist stated.

“I feel in the event that they collaborated with individuals within the metropolis, we might have some actual nice influence,” Mays stated. “It is as much as the group and the elected officers and the police to make the perfect group. We will do higher collectively.”
