MP slams suitability of incoming FCA chair


MP Andrea Leadsom (pictured) has criticised the incoming chair of the Monetary Conduct Authority (FCA) over his understanding of the UK regulatory setting and his suitability for the function.

Throughout a gathering of the Treasury Choose Committee yesterday (14 December), Leadsom accused incoming FCA chair Ashley Alder of getting a “very slim” understanding of the UK’s monetary scrutiny system.

She highlighted the truth that Alder has spent the vast majority of his profession in Hong Kong, the place the regulatory system is completely different.

Alder responded by saying that he has been a regulator for 11 years in Hong Kong. Alder is at present chief govt of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Fee, however will step down from this function on the finish of December. He is because of assume his FCA chair function on 20 February 2023.
